Access to X's AI tool Grok blocked

Grok, the AI-based system of X, one of the world's most used social media platforms, caused a major crisis with its posts yesterday evening.

The fact that Grok, which can be directed by user interactions, made posts containing insults about many people, including the founder of the Republic of Turkey, Mustafa Kemal Atatürk, and the AKP Chairman and President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, caused public outrage. Following this development, the Ankara Chief Public Prosecutor's Office intervened, launched an investigation into Grok, and obtained an access ban decision through a criminal judgeship of peace.

SHARING AUTHORITY RESTRICTED

Upon these developments, the management of the X platform took action and restricted Grok's sharing features. The artificial intelligence, which will no longer be able to respond to user comments, will be limited to image generation only.

In a statement regarding the matter, the Ankara Chief Public Prosecutor's Office stated: "Following Grok's insults directed at Atatürk, our President, and the Prophet, the Ankara Chief Public Prosecutor's Office drew up a report ex officio and applied to the criminal judgeship of peace for an access ban decision; the relevant court issued an access ban decision and sent it to the BTK to be forwarded to the access provider."

X'S STATEMENT

The platform's official statement included the following:

"We are aware of the recent posts made by Grok and are actively working to remove inappropriate content.

Following our awareness of the content, xAI has taken measures to prevent hate speech before Grok posts on X.

xAI is training an AI that only seeks the truth, and thanks to millions of users on X, we can quickly identify and update areas where the model's training can be improved."
