Accident at Istanbul Airport!
A cargo plane at Istanbul Airport landed on its fuselage after its front landing gear failed to deploy. There were no deaths or injuries in the incident.
A disaster was narrowly averted at Istanbul Airport. Around 08:30, a cargo plane belonging to a foreign airline landed on its fuselage after its landing gear failed to open.
The Ministry of Transport and Infrastructure issued the following statement regarding the incident:
"Today, the Boeing 763 type aircraft with registration mark N110FE, belonging to FedEx Airlines, which was performing the FX6238 France/Istanbul cargo flight, reported to the Istanbul Airport ATC unit at 07:55 local time that the front landing gear did not open (due to a hydraulic failure, according to the pilot's statement), and it landed on runway 16R at 08:17 local time with the front landing gear closed and remained on the runway.
The aircraft that landed at the airport was intervened by the Airport Rescue and Fire Fighting Service teams (ARFF), and the runway has been issued a NOTAM. There were no deaths or injuries in the accident. Experts have been assigned by our Directorate to initiate research and investigation efforts."
FIRST STATEMENT FROM THE GOVERNOR!
Istanbul Governor Davut Gül stated regarding the FedEx Airlines cargo plane landing on its fuselage at Istanbul Airport, "Istanbul Airport is one of the most comprehensive and qualified airports in the world. Therefore, any disruption on one runway does not affect flights; flights are continuing. There is no loss of life."
"REPORTED THAT THE LANDING GEAR DID NOT OPEN"
Another statement regarding the accident at Istanbul Airport came from the Minister of Transport and Infrastructure, Abdülkadir Uraloğlu.
Uraloğlu, in his statement on Habertürk TV, said, "The pilot reported to the tower that the landing gear did not open. Subsequently, a process was initiated for the aircraft to land in this manner. No fire occurred, but our teams carried out cooling operations. The fact that the aircraft remained on the runway is valuable for us. The two pilots later exited the aircraft through the emergency exit. We have three runways; one is currently closed. Two runways are still in traffic; we do not foresee any significant disruption to flights."
