Accused of firing relatives of veterans and martyrs: Verdict reached regarding Ahmet Türk

The legal process initiated against Co-Mayor Ahmet Türk on charges of "firing relatives of veterans and martyrs" following the appointment of a trustee to the Mardin Metropolitan Municipality in 2019 has resulted in an acquittal.

After the Ministry of Interior appointed a trustee to Mardin, 5 people, including some who were determined to have committed corruption within the municipality, filed a criminal complaint alleging that "they are firing relatives of veterans and martyrs."

Following the complaint initiated under the direction of the trustee at the time, Mustafa Yaman, the Mardin Chief Public Prosecutor's Office prepared an indictment against Ahmet Türk, as well as the then-Acting Secretary General Mustafa Yıldız and Deputy Secretary General Hacı Üzmez, on charges of "misconduct in office."

ACQUITTAL DUE TO INSUFFICIENT EVIDENCE

In its reasoned decision dated September 26, 2024, the court stated that the employment contracts were terminated on different dates and that there was no concrete or definitive evidence that the dismissals were based on the individuals being relatives of martyrs or veterans. The decision included the statement, "It could not be determined that a distinct stance was adopted toward the dismissal of relatives of martyrs and veterans." Furthermore, it was emphasized that the victims did not file lawsuits for reinstatement.

DECISION FINALIZED

No appeal was filed by the complainants to the Diyarbakır Regional Court of Justice against the acquittal decision rendered by the court. At the end of the process, the decision became final.
