Açık Radyo Broadcast Director: Our radio will not close

The Radio and Television Supreme Council (RTÜK) has revoked the license of Açık Radyo, which has been broadcasting for 29 years, and ended its terrestrial broadcast. Ömer Madra, the founder and Broadcast Director of Açık Radyo—where 1,416 volunteer programmers and 1,219 different programs have been produced to date—made statements to the Media and Law Studies Association (MLSA).

"SHOUT OUT THAT 'AÇIK RADYO MUST REMAIN OPEN'"

Madra used the following expressions in his statement regarding the revocation of Açık Radyo's license:

"Açık Radyo cannot be silenced; it is the voice of the public sphere. The revocation of the license means silencing the public. We have received great support from national and international press organizations. This is clear censorship and is unacceptable. Shout out everywhere that 'Açık Radyo must remain open'."
