Adalar residents protest against IETT

A group of members from the Adalar Civil Initiative, consisting of local residents, gathered in front of the Büyükada Clock Square to protest and demonstrate against the 10 minibuses brought to Büyükada by IETT officials around 06:00 for use.

In the statement made by the group, it was recalled that the Islands are a first-degree protected area under legal protection, and a banner reading "We do not want minibuses on the Islands for walkable islands" was unfurled.

"THERE ARE NO OTHER ISLANDS"

The group stated that they had previously collected signatures to oppose the use of minibuses and also expressed that they have alternative solution plans, continuing their remarks as follows:

"The statement, which noted that the signatures previously collected to prevent the use of minibuses on the Islands were delivered to the Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality (IBB), the Adalar Municipality, the IBB Adalar Coordination Office, and IETT, said, 'We invite everyone to comply with the law. We say the Islands belong to all of us. We have repeatedly stated how they should be protected. Let us create a Transportation Master Plan together and put an end to this chaos. Let us put an end to this lawlessness; there are no other Islands.'

The group, which also sought support from local tradespeople in the Adalar, stated that everything that makes the Islands unique and special is being lost very rapidly and that the district will soon become a place that tourists will not want to visit.
