Admission regarding İmamoğlu from AKP's Nihat Zeybekci!
AKP's Nihat Zeybekci made a statement regarding the negative economic developments since March 19, when Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality Mayor Ekrem İmamoğlu was taken into custody, saying, "The March 19 process naturally damaged the economy. It is out of the question to say it did not."
AKP Deputy Chairman and Head of Economic Affairs Nihat Zeybekci is back in the spotlight with his recent statements. Drawing attention with his visit to TÜSİAD, Zeybekci made striking remarks regarding the process in which Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality (İBB) Mayor Ekrem İmamoğlu, who is currently detained in Silivri Prison, was taken into custody and arrested, and the parallel developments in the economy.
Speaking on Ekol TV, Zeybekci evaluated the Turkish economy, stating, "It is the 17th largest economy in the world by nominal values and the 11th largest economy in the world by purchasing power parity. Are we in a comfortable economic environment? No. We are experiencing an ongoing process in the fight against inflation."
Evaluating the investigation conducted into the Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality, which led to İBB Mayor Ekrem İmamoğlu being taken into custody, arrested, and temporarily suspended from his duties, Zeybekci drew attention to the economic repercussions of these events.
Stating that the reaction of the markets during this process cannot be ignored, Zeybekci said, "The March 19 process naturally damaged the economy. It is out of the question to say it did not. Damaging the economy takes time. The results of an event that happens today emerge over 6-month, 1-year, or 2-year periods. But regarding the financial markets, we can certainly say that this process damaged Turkey."
