AFAD announces earthquake toll for the last two years! Since February 6...

The Ministry of Interior Disaster and Emergency Management Authority (AFAD) has announced that approximately 110,000 earthquakes have occurred in and around Turkey since the February 6, 2023, earthquakes centered in Kahramanmaraş.

In a post on its social media accounts, AFAD released a video highlighting the seismic activity experienced over the last two years. This video provided a detailed display of the distribution of earthquakes that have taken place in Turkey and its immediate vicinity.

110,000 EARTHQUAKES HAVE OCCURRED IN THE LAST TWO YEARS

AFAD's statement included the following: "In our country, an earthquake of magnitude 6 occurs every 3 years, an earthquake above 6 occurs every 5 years, and an earthquake of magnitude 7 or greater occurs every 10 years. On average, 24,000 earthquakes are analyzed annually by AFAD. This number has approached 110,000 since the 'Disaster of the Century' on February 6."

Since a large portion of Turkey is located on active fault lines, seismic activity is monitored continuously. Measurements taken by AFAD, the Kandilli Observatory, and other earth science institutes once again highlight the reality of earthquakes in the country.
