After İzmir, another electrical tragedy in Bursa... 43-year-old Ferhat Damar has lost his life

The tragedy occurred in the rural neighborhood of Ericek in Gürsu district.

According to the information obtained, Ferhat Damar (43) went to perform repairs with two friends after one of the pipes used for irrigating fields cracked and began leaking water. While attempting to repair the pipe, Damar slipped, and finding nothing to hold onto, he grabbed the protective railings of a station located right next to the valve. The father of one was severely injured after being electrocuted due to the presence of electricity in the protective wires.

Ferhat Damar, who had gripped the protective wires with both hands, was pulled from the area where the valve was located with the help of gendarmerie officers who happened to be passing by and his friends.

HIS HEART STOPPED, HE WAS GIVEN CPR FOR MINUTES

His friends intervened to help Damar while simultaneously notifying emergency medical teams. Upon arriving at the scene, medical teams performed CPR for minutes on Damar, whose heart had stopped. Damar was then rushed to Gürsu Cüneyt Yıldız State Hospital, but could not be saved despite all interventions.

It was observed that Ferhat Damar had visited a market in the neighborhood before his death, where he greeted his friends before heading to the area where the valve was located.

The funeral of Damar, a father of one, was laid to rest in Ericek Cemetery amidst tears.

On the other hand, it was learned that 15 days ago, another person had been electrocuted in the same way and managed to save themselves.

IT HAPPENED 15 DAYS AGO TOO

"A great fire has fallen upon our home," said his grieving older brother Mustafa Damar, adding, "He was having breakfast at the village coffeehouse in the morning. Later, there was a water leak in the area where we were. As he wanted to check the source of the leak, he slipped and grabbed the station's wires to avoid falling. The moment he touched the wires, he was electrocuted. He lost his life after being electrocuted. About 15 days ago, another young man from our village was electrocuted in the same place. He survived somehow. After the incident 15 days ago, the village headman informed the authorities that there was an electrical leak. The authorities said it would be fixed. After my brother passed away, the headman called again and received the answer, 'We forgot to fix that fault.' It is a cheap, senseless death. We will not let this incident go. About 15 days ago, a similar incident occurred in İzmir. We want such deaths to come to an end. We will initiate the legal process as soon as possible. Furthermore, there are no warning signs outside the station at all. Human life should not be this cheap. He was a person who dedicated himself to his village. He left behind his 15-year-old child and his wife. A great fire has fallen upon our home. We trust in the supreme Turkish justice; may no other lives be lost."

Tunahan Tuna, who stated that he experienced the same situation 15 days ago, said, "About 15 days ago, I opened the valve. My hands were wet, and I touched the wires to get support while climbing up. At that moment, I was also electrocuted. The next day, I went to the headman and explained the situation. The headman also applied to the necessary authorities. Four days ago, an older brother from our village lost his life here. He had also come to help, but unfortunately, he lost his life."

'THERE IS NOT A SINGLE WARNING SIGN'

Stating that their friend died in their arms, Aziz Gider said, "I am the president of the Ericek village cooperative. We experienced a very terrible incident here. Our friend died in our arms. I don't know what to say. Excavation work was done here. There is no sign on the panel warning of electricity. A fire burns where it falls. We are truly heartbroken. He left behind his 15-year-old son, his wife, and his mother. His mother is a cancer patient. I came here on the day the incident happened. There was a water leak. He was a brother of ours who did these things for charity. The day before the incident, our friends working at the pond said, 'President, there is a burst.' I took my grandson and came to the place where the burst was. I saw the water flowing. I went to the dam. I turned off our motors, we walked around here. If there had been electricity in the water, I and my grandson could have died too. He started screaming. At first, we thought an iron rod had pierced his chest. When we saw there was nothing in his chest, I thought he had been electrocuted. We tried to pull him by his shirt; I held one hand and my friend held the other, and we pulled him out. I also asked for help from the operator friend. At that moment, I saw the gendarmerie officers on patrol. They also came to help. I told them the friend had been electrocuted. We all pulled him out together and performed artificial respiration and CPR. We did what we could, but unfortunately, we lost our friend. We do not want such incidents to happen. Those responsible must definitely be punished. Whoever is responsible must serve their sentence to the fullest. There is not a single warning sign."
