After Niğde, now Ankara! Dog massacre in Altındağ: Statement from ABB

While the law prepared by the AKP regarding the implementation of euthanasia (killing) for stray animals came into effect last week, reports continue to emerge that dogs are being killed in some regions.

While footage emerged from the AKP-run Niğde Municipality showing dogs living in a shelter being buried in mass graves, a similar situation has now occurred in the Altındağ district of Ankara.

Animal rights advocates have obtained footage of dozens of massacred dogs in the Altındağ district.

It is alleged that there are thousands of dogs on and under the ground in a plot of land reportedly located in the Kavaklı village of Altındağ. It can be seen that the lifeless bodies of the animals are lying on the ground, some in bags and some without.

Following the mass dog massacre by the Ankara Altındağ Municipality, users expressed their reactions on the X social media platform with the hashtag 'Allah belanızı versin' (May God damn you).

"THEIR APPETITE INCREASED AFTER THE LAW"

Volkan Koç, one of the citizens present at the site where the dogs were found, made statements that are set to spark significant debate.

According to a report by Cumhuriyet, Koç alleged that the Altındağ Municipality began collecting and immediately killing dogs after the law was passed, stating, "They didn't even bother to throw dirt over these living creatures they killed. The animals were dumped into pits they dug, piled on top of each other like trash. There are dozens of pits here. There are many graves that have just been covered. There isn't even a dog left inside the shelter."

Stating that the municipality had previously failed to fulfill its duty of sterilization and improving shelter conditions, Koç added, "They got an appetite with the law. They are literally roaming around attacking street dogs to kill them. They never take the dogs they pick up into the shelters. They kill them and bury them in pits before they even reach the shelter. These are just the ones we can see. We believe there are many more animal carcasses under the ground right now. We think there are thousands of dogs. An excavator has just entered the area."

STATEMENT FROM ANKARA METROPOLITAN MUNICIPALITY

Following the incident, the Ankara Metropolitan Municipality issued a statement on its social media account.

The statement, which clarifies that the shelter where the dogs were massacred belongs to the Altındağ Municipality, is as follows:

"The incident that took place at the shelter affiliated with the Altındağ Municipality is not within the area of responsibility of the Ankara Metropolitan Municipality.

We would like to inform the public that the shelter does not belong to the Ankara Metropolitan Municipality and that we will be following up on this massacre."

6 DETAINED

6 municipal personnel, including Altındağ Municipality Veterinary Affairs Manager Emre Çınar, have been detained. The detained personnel were taken to the police station to provide their statements.
