Agriculture and Forestry Minister İbrahim Yumaklı's statement on Afghan shepherds: 'Agriculture is like football...'

While exorbitant prices and labor shortages in production have remained on the agenda in Turkey recently, Trade Minister Ömer Bolat's 'Afghan shepherd' statement had drawn attention. Answering questions from Kübra Par on tv100, Minister Yumaklı made statements regarding the agenda.

Minister Bolat's statement that "if Afghan shepherds leave, agriculture and livestock will not survive" was put to Agriculture and Forestry Minister İbrahim Yumaklı.

"AGRICULTURE IS LIKE FOOTBALL..."

Upon Kübra Par's question, "Will we not be able to find shepherds if there are no Afghans?", Minister Yumaklı used the following expressions:

Agriculture is like football; everyone has an opinion.

They tell me, 'You must develop a return-to-the-village project.' I say, 'Well then, can we start with your child?' They say, 'No, not my child.' So, we must act based on the realities.

I don't know the context of Mr. Ömer's statement, I will not comment on it.

"THE WORLD POPULATION IS AGING AND THIS IS STARTING IN RURAL AREAS"

I returned from the G20 Summit yesterday. One of the two topics discussed by the invited countries and organizations was the aging population. The world population is aging, and this aging is starting in rural areas. This is not just our problem. Therefore, you must act accordingly. It is a vital issue for our youth and women to be involved in agricultural production.

This is our reality. We are talking to our Minister of Labor about how we can encourage this.

"WE HAVE TO TAKE PRECAUTIONS NOW"

Do not look at it only as shepherds. There is such a need within agricultural production. Perhaps the process is heading this way due to the development of society. It is not as if it has been completely wiped out. This shows us the problem of the future. We have to take precautions now.
