Ahmet Ercan lists the 5 riskiest districts in Istanbul: 'Profit ignored science'
Geophysicist Prof. Dr. Ahmet Ercan announced the 5 riskiest districts in Istanbul in a post on his social media account.
Recent consecutive earthquakes in the Sea of Marmara have brought the potential major Istanbul earthquake to the agenda.
While the earthquakes in question have unsettled citizens living in the Marmara Region, Geophysicist Prof. Dr. Ahmet Ercan shared a post on his social media account regarding the potential Istanbul earthquake.
Explaining the 5 districts of Istanbul under risk, Ercan included the following statements in his post:
"In an earthquake, the fault line does not destroy; the shaking does. Shaking intensifies on loose ground and rattles the structure. 65% of the destruction is caused by the ground, and 35% by structural defects. Densely, multi-story developed Esenyurt, Beylikdüzü, Bahçelievler, Zeytinburnu, and Bakırköy are alarming. In Istanbul, profit has ignored science."
Making another post afterward, Prof. Ercan wrote, "In an earthquake year, fruits are abundant; in an earthquake week, red fish are abundant. Additionally, headaches, muscle and joint pains increase in people."
