Ahmet Ercan warns Istanbul residents after magnitude 4 earthquake! 'At least two earthquakes are inevitable in the Marmara'
Following the 4.0 magnitude earthquake that occurred off the coast of Büyükçekmece in the Sea of Marmara, Prof. Dr. Övgün Ahmet Ercan stated, "At least two earthquakes are inevitable in the Marmara. However, it is still too early to predict the timing. The Marmara has not yet reached the tension level to exceed the M6.4 threshold value."
The earthquake that occurred off the coast of Büyükçekmece in the Sea of Marmara yesterday evening around 23:36 caused anxiety among Istanbul residents.
AFAD announced the magnitude of the earthquake as 4. The tremors recorded in the Sea of Marmara following the 6.2 magnitude earthquake on April 23 have raised concerns about a possible major Istanbul earthquake, and Prof. Dr. Övgün Ahmet Ercan made a statement regarding the matter.
"AT LEAST TWO EARTHQUAKES ARE INEVITABLE IN THE MARMARA"
Noting that the magnitude 4 earthquake was an aftershock, Ercan stated that there was no cause for concern but issued a warning.
Ercan said, "The 4.2 is an expected aftershock. There is no problem. The solution is solid structures on solid ground. This requires a strong economy and a conscious, community-oriented governing power. Structural transformation serves the wealthy and is an enemy of urban transformation. At least two earthquakes are inevitable in the Marmara. However, it is still too early for the timing. The Marmara has not yet reached the tension level to exceed the M6.4 threshold value. We can only be saved from earthquakes with your contributions. First, we must become responsible, conscious citizens. May it be auspicious."
