Ahmet Hakan issues 'mandatory statement' regarding Hafize Gaye Erkan interview
Journalist Ahmet Hakan, known for his proximity to the government, has responded to allegations that Hafize Gaye Erkan's father, Erol Erkan, mediated the interview he conducted with Central Bank Governor Hafize Gaye Erkan.
Hürriyet Editor-in-Chief Ahmet Hakan, known for his proximity to the government, has issued a 'mandatory statement' regarding the interview he conducted in December 2023 with Central Bank of the Republic of Turkey (TCMB) Governor Hafize Gaye Erkan.
Responding to allegations that Hafize Gaye Erkan's father, Erol Erkan, mediated the interview in question, Hakan stated, "So that if there is to be a struggle, it is fought honorably... So that lies and deceit do not prevail... So that there is not a shred of deviation from justice and fairness... So that there is no room for tall tales or disinformation."
Noting that the Central Bank's communications unit mediated the interview, Hakan wrote, "No one else acted as an intermediary, nor did anyone else interfere. Furthermore, if there had been any such mediation as described, I would have said, 'Excuse me, but what business is this of yours?' Thank God, we possess at least that much common sense."
