Ahmet Hakan's commentary on Ayşenur Arslan

Journalist Ayşenur Arslan was released after being detained over comments she made regarding the bomb attack in Ankara during her Medya Mahallesi program on Halk TV.

Commenting on Arslan's detention, Hürriyet Editor-in-Chief Ahmet Hakan stated, "It is shameful, it is frowned upon, it is condemned, it is criticized, and one might say 'This is going too far.' But this irresponsibility should not be criminalized. This should not lead to detention or arrest. Fortunately... It didn't, it wasn't. A detention procedure was not carried out. Her statement was taken. And she was released immediately. Thank God".

Hakan continued his article with the following remarks;

"Okay, I accept that. There are many question marks regarding how the incident occurred. However, she tries to resolve these question marks on screen without relying on the slightest bit of information or the smallest bit of expertise. While doing so, she makes many blunders. She practically invites misunderstandings.

There is also a problem of lack of seriousness. She sings the song 'Axes in our hands / Long ropes at our waists' as 'Pistols in our hands / Bombs at our waists.' She sings this song with a mocking melody. In no television station in the world has such a serious incident been approached with such a lack of seriousness."
