Ahmet Hakan's response to Lâl Denizli on 'stray dogs': 'With such absurd shows...'
Hürriyet Editor-in-Chief Ahmet Hakan criticized Çeşme Mayor Lâl Denizli for placing a dog in her official chair in his column today. Hakan stated, "With such absurd shows, let alone achieving your goal, you create the exact opposite effect."
While the issue of euthanizing stray dogs remains on the agenda, Çeşme Mayor Lâl Denizli sat a dog in her official chair yesterday and said, "Today, we hosted our guests at the municipality together with Moro, one of my children. We had a pleasant and productive day with our guests. Being with my dog made our work even more cheerful. It was a great joy to host our fellow citizens with him!"
Following Denizli's post, Hürriyet Editor-in-Chief Ahmet Hakan criticized Denizli with harsh words in his column today.
"IT CREATES THE OPPOSITE EFFECT"
The relevant section of Hakan's column is as follows:
"Çeşme Mayor Lâl Denizli sat her dog in her official chair and posed like this.
I took a look.
I wondered in what context she did this absurdity.
I couldn't find anything.
*
If her goal was to send a message like 'how could anyone harm these beauties'...
With such absurd shows, let alone achieving your goal, you create the exact opposite effect.
*
"SOCIETY DOG"
Because the dog she sat in her chair is not the kind of gang-forming and aggressive stray dog that a segment of the public complains about.
In Haldun Taner's 'Keşanlı Ali Destanı', there is a society dog.
It became famous with the line, 'She is a little lady.'
The dog Lâl Denizli sat in her chair looks more like that one.
*
A move that makes dogs look unsympathetic
Anyway... Anyway...
The real issue is not this.
It is this:
*
"THEY MUST STOP ACTING ABSURDLY"
As the Mayor of Çeşme, Lâl Denizli...
Instead of putting on such shows...
- Should develop solutions for the stray dog problem.
- Should share photos of the shelters she has opened.
- Should provide news about the sterilization campaign she has launched.
*
I rebel against the fact that the most adorable creatures on earth are being made to look unsympathetic through such unpleasant posts.
*
Those who say they love dogs, if they really love dogs...
- They must stop acting absurdly.
- They must stop being defiant.
- They must stay away from exaggerations like 'euthanize me too.'
- They must be solution-oriented.
- They must try to understand those who complain about dogs.
- They must avoid shows that will overshadow the cuteness of dogs."
