Air operation in northern Iraq
According to a statement by the Ministry of National Defense, an air operation was carried out in northern Iraq.
The Ministry of National Defense (MSB) announced that an air operation was conducted against terrorist targets in the Metina, Zap, Gara, Hakurk, Kandil, and Asos regions in northern Iraq.
In a written statement from the MSB, it was stated: “In accordance with our right to self-defense arising from Article 51 of the United Nations Charter, an air operation was carried out on September 2, 2024, against terrorist targets in the Metina, Zap, Gara, Hakurk, Kandil, and Asos regions in northern Iraq, with the aim of neutralizing PKK/KCK and other terrorist elements, eliminating terrorist attacks against our people and security forces from northern Iraq, and ensuring our border security. With the air operation conducted, 20 targets consisting of caves, bunkers, shelters, depots, and facilities used by the Separatist Terrorist Organization (BTÖ), which are assessed to also contain terrorists at the leadership level, were destroyed.”
The statement continued: “In this operation, a large number of terrorists were neutralized using the maximum amount of domestic and national ammunition.
The Turkish Armed Forces, which emerged from the heart of our noble nation, will continue the fight against terrorism with determination and resolve until the last terrorist is neutralized, for the survival and security of our country and nation, just as it has in the past.
During this operation, every measure was taken to ensure that innocent people, friendly elements, historical and cultural assets, and the environment were not harmed.”
