Minister of Justice Akın Gürlek announced that İslam Yakut, the leader of an international drug trafficking criminal organization, has been captured in Istanbul.
It was reported that Yakut, who had been a fugitive since 2017, continued to manage his organization through encrypted communication systems and was linked to a total of 2 tons of drugs seized in Turkey and Europe.
According to information provided by Gürlek, the operation was carried out under the coordination of the Istanbul Chief Public Prosecutor's Office, with the joint efforts of the Istanbul Police Department, the National Intelligence Organization (MİT), and the General Directorate of Security's Anti-Narcotic Crimes Department.
USED ENCRYPTED COMMUNICATION SYSTEM
It was determined that Yakut had been hiding at various addresses both in Turkey and abroad for a long time, yet continued to manage the activities of the criminal organization.
Within the scope of the investigation, it was determined that the suspect gave instructions to organization members through encrypted communication systems such as ANOM and SKY ECC.
According to Minister Gürlek's statement, the organization was organizing the shipment of heroin from Iran and Afghanistan to Europe, and synthetic drugs from Europe to Turkey.

Under the leadership of our President, Mr. Erdoğan; we are fighting against drugs and organized crime without compromise, with all the resources of our state and the strong coordination of our judicial, security, and intelligence units.
Our goal in this fight is clear: We had said, “Drug barons are our target.”
Under the coordination of our Istanbul Chief Public Prosecutor's Office; as a result of the work carried out by our Istanbul Police Department, our MİT Presidency, and our EGM Anti-Narcotic Crimes Department, the leader of the international drug trafficking criminal organization, İslam Yakut, was captured and taken into custody in Istanbul.
It was determined that the suspect, who had been sought as a fugitive since 2017, continued to manage the criminal organization from the places where he had been hiding domestically and abroad for a long time. It was determined that the suspect gave instructions to organization members through ANOM and SKY ECC encrypted communication systems.
It was revealed that the criminal organization, which organized the shipment of heroin from Iran and Afghanistan to Europe and synthetic drugs from Europe to our country, was responsible for a total of 2 tons of narcotic substances seized in Turkey and European countries.
No matter where drug barons hide, or what methods they use to try to cover their tracks, they will not be able to escape the determined pursuit of our state and justice!
