Akın Gürlek's statement on general amnesty: 'The package only contains provisions for PKK members'

Minister of Justice Akın Gürlek made statements regarding the "general amnesty" debates that have come to the fore during a TRT Haber broadcast. Gürlek stated that the government is not conducting any work toward a general amnesty, noting that the regulation on the agenda only concerns 'members' of the terrorist organization PKK.

Touching upon the legal regulations prepared within the scope of the second opening process, dubbed "Terror-Free Turkey," Gürlek stated that there is a 15-article text and that the draft is expected to come first to the Turkish Grand National Assembly (TBMM) Justice Commission and then to the General Assembly next week.

Regarding the process, Gürlek said, "The Terror-Free Turkey process has reached a good stage, as far as I know. Our esteemed Speaker of the Parliament, Mr. Numan, also made a statement. It is set to come to the Justice Commission next week and then reach the stage of coming to the General Assembly in Parliament."

Stating that the Ministry of Justice provides technical support to the process, Gürlek used the expressions, "Parliament is following that process; we are not involved. We can only offer suggestions technically, as the Ministry of Justice, during the law-making phase."

Responding to the general amnesty allegations, Gürlek made the statement, "There is no general amnesty regulation here. There is no regulation specific to individuals. These are at the discretion of Parliament. In other words, there is currently no regulation or work regarding a general amnesty. But in this current package, there is only a regulation concerning PKK members."
