In a statement issued by the Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality (IMM) Disaster Coordination Center (AKOM), it was stated that temperatures in Istanbul are expected to range between 34-37 degrees Celsius due to the ongoing heatwave. It was further warned that, combined with high humidity levels, temperatures could be felt 5-10 degrees higher than the actual readings, particularly in southern coastal areas such as Kartal, Kadıköy, Florya, and Beylikdüzü.

AKOM issues 'dangerous heat' warning for these Istanbul districts

According to data from the IMM's AKOM, temperatures are expected to range between 34-37 degrees Celsius due to the heatwave forecasted to affect the Marmara region until Monday. It was noted that, with humidity levels between 50-95 percent, these values could be felt 5-10 degrees higher than the actual readings.

ATTENTION TO SOUTHERN COASTS

The statement from AKOM highlighted that in southern coastal areas where temperature and humidity levels are highest—specifically Kartal, Kadıköy, Florya, and Beylikdüzü—the felt temperature is reaching dangerous levels of 40 degrees Celsius and above. For this reason, it was emphasized that it would be beneficial for the health of citizens, especially the elderly, pregnant women, children, and those with conditions such as asthma and heart failure, to avoid being in sunny environments during midday hours. Air temperatures in Istanbul are expected to remain 4-7 degrees above seasonal norms until July 22, and between July 23 and August 5, they are expected to range from around seasonal norms to 1-3 degrees above them.
