Scandalous support from AKP's Ceren Tuncer for Alpay Özalan, who attacked Ahmet Şık: 'He did what was necessary, king'

Chaos erupted yesterday during the Can Atalay session at the Grand National Assembly of Turkey (TBMM).

While TİP Istanbul MP Ahmet Şık was delivering his speech at the podium, AKP's Alpay Özalan occupied the podium and attacked Şık.

A fistfight broke out in the chaotic TBMM General Assembly hall. During the scuffle, CHP's Okan Konuralp and DEM Party Group Deputy Chair Gülistan Kılıç Koçyiğit sustained cuts to their eyebrows.

While the opposition condemned the attack carried out by Özalan against Şık, the events received extensive coverage in the world press.

AKP figures, however, supported Özalan's scandalous attack.

AKP Human Rights Deputy Chair Ceren Tuncer shared a video on her social media account of Alpay Özalan's statement to journalists on the day he took his oath in Parliament in 2018, where he said, "I will punish anyone who insults President Erdoğan in the slightest," and used the phrase, "He did what was necessary, king."

SUPPORT FROM THE PALACE AS WELL

Support for Özalan's attack on Şık also came from the Presidential Palace.

Ahmet Selim Köroğlu, Chief Advisor to AKP Chairman and President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, stated, "This is the TBMM, not a free-for-all; if you insult, you will get an answer. Osman Kavala, Selahattin Demirtaş, and Can Atalay are terrorists."

Another of Erdoğan's advisors, Ayhan Oğan, used the following expressions in a post on his X account:

"The parliamentary podium is for MPs who have ideas and something to say.

The administrative officer of the assembly is obliged to perform their duty against agent provocateurs who are extensions of terrorist organizations, who have nothing to say, and who have come to provoke the TBMM by using profanity and insults.

No one has the right to benefit from the blessings of democracy while poisoning and terrorizing democracy."
