Earthquake housing assigned to AKP's Şamil Tayyar! Here is how he defended himself...
An earthquake housing unit in Gaziantep has been assigned to former AKP deputy Şamil Tayyar. Making a statement on his social media account, Tayyar said, "We applied as rights holders. My brother will live there."
The Disaster and Emergency Management Authority (AFAD) held a "Gaziantep Earthquake Housing Lottery" on February 4. When the lottery reached the İslahiye district section, an earthquake housing unit was assigned to Şamil Tayyar, who served as an AKP deputy for 3 terms.

It was announced that a 2+1 apartment on the 5th floor was assigned to Tayyar.
According to a report by BirGün, Şamil Tayyar confirmed that he was assigned an earthquake housing unit and made the following statement:
"A 2+1 85-square-meter house came up in the lottery. My father had a two-story house with a garden. The house was registered in my name and they had issued a heavy damage report. After a while, it was demolished. We applied for earthquake housing as rights holders. My brother took the house that came up in the lottery."
On the other hand, Tayyar served as a Gaziantep Deputy for the 24th, 25th, and 26th terms.
ASSIGNED TO AN AKP DEPUTY AS WELL
An earthquake housing unit in Şanlıurfa was also assigned to AKP Şanlıurfa Deputy Cevahir Asuman Yazmacı. In August 2023, Yazmacı was one of the first people to visit Asım Sultanoğlu, who was appointed to the Şanlıurfa Provincial Directorate of National Education despite having been under investigation due to the rape scandal at Ensar Foundation dormitories.
STATEMENT FROM ŞAMİL TAYYAR
In a post on his social media account, Tayyar noted that he had purchased the building, which was heavily damaged in the earthquake, years ago, and that his father lived on the upper floor while his older brother lived on the lower floor.
Tayyar used the following expressions:
"Since BirGün has made a news story and ignited the fire of discord, let me explain the incident. I bought the 40-50-year-old, two-story old building, which we used as our 'father's home,' where my father lived on the upper floor and my retired police officer brother lived on the lower floor, years ago. When my father passed away 3 years ago, my nephew, who is a contract worker, and his children moved in. When the house was heavily damaged in the February 6 earthquake, it was demolished. Thank God, I didn't need it, but my earthquake-survivor siblings and nephews in İslahiye, who live on minimum wage and pensions, were victims during this process. They stayed in İslahiye, and like every earthquake survivor, they first settled in a tent and then in a container, and they continue to live here. Since the father's home was demolished and the title deed belongs to me, I applied as a rights holder on their behalf. An 85-square-meter 2+1 apartment came up in the lottery. There were many takers within the family; I gave it to my brother Gökhan, who has 3 children and is in need, and whose conditions were the worst among them. I will transfer the title deed when the legal conditions are met. What is 'not halal' here? If those who target these needy people, whose only fault is being close to a deputy, are looking for 'haram,' they should look into Lütfü Savaş."
