AKP Diyarbakır MP Galip Ensarioğlu joins the 'Kurdish halay' debate: 'Kurdish traffic warnings are not a crime'

AKP's Ensarioğlu has joined the "Kurdish halay" debate that has been discussed in the public eye for some time.

'THERE ARE ALLEGATIONS THAT ILLEGAL SLOGANS WERE CHANTED'

Sharing a post on social media, Ensarioğlu said the following:

"I do not find the erasure of Kurdish warning signs in Van and Diyarbakır to be correct. These signs were written to draw attention in traffic and are not illegal. No one has the right to interfere with any practice that is not illegal. We are continuing our efforts to ensure that the necessary steps are taken regarding this matter. Our goal is to ensure that such incidents do not recur.

Regarding the detention of people dancing the halay in different provinces of Turkey, I would like to state that dancing the halay in Kurdish, Zazaki, Turkish, or any other language is not illegal. However, there are allegations that illegal slogans were chanted in some videos. If there are situations that require intervention within the legal framework, the necessary interventions should be made. However, practices that would disturb the peace of society should be avoided during this process.

'ÖLÜRÜM TÜRKİYEM' DEBATE

There is no place in this country for the lying and slanderous journalism that tries to pit us against our Minister of Interior by distorting a statement I gave to a news site, and there never will be. Mr. Ali Yerlikaya is a minister of our party and our government. If we have something to say to him, he is as close to us as a phone call. We know closely the struggle and effort he has put forth since the day he took office, and at this point, our support and affection for our Minister are complete.

The truth that we need to clarify and which has been distorted is this: The use of the song 'Ölürüm Türkiyem' as if it were a tool of punishment for young people dancing the halay with music that is considered propaganda for a terrorist organization. We are concerned that this attitude will fuel counter-nationalism. Just as it was 44 years ago in Diyarbakır Prison, where songs and anthems forced upon people with beatings and violence fueled hatred and enmity rather than love for this homeland.

We say to these young people: Never give way to those who try to use you as a tool for the propaganda of hatred, enmity, terror, chaos, and fratricide. We will sing the songs of brotherhood, joy, and togetherness. As in our ancient state tradition, the principle of 'let the human live so that the state may live' is our roadmap. This has been the political philosophy of the AK Party for 22 years. And without deviating from this principle, our struggle for a 'Great and Strong Turkey' will continue under the leadership of our President, Mr. Recep Tayyip Erdoğan.
