AKP figure warns his party about the reconciliation process: 'It would not be a surprise to experience the same disappointment as in Cyprus in the first general election'

Former AKP MKYK member Orhan Miroğlu emphasized that his party needs to be careful, evaluating the results of the general elections held in the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus.

Addressing the second reconciliation process, dubbed the “Terror-Free Turkey” initiative, which the government is conducting through the lens of the TRNC elections, Miroğlu drew attention to the trust issues surrounding polling companies. Stating that these companies do not provide any benefit to the party, Miroğlu warned that if the current situation is not read correctly, a “disappointment” similar to the one in the TRNC could be experienced.

The following statements were included in the post shared by Miroğlu via his X account:

“I hope the Cyprus elections will be an occasion to distinguish between reality and perception in Turkey as well. This election was of vital importance for Cyprus. Its results will undoubtedly be talked about and debated extensively. Of course, it is not the same thing. But the legal information channels and methods used for the Solution Process are not operating in the direction of reality, just as in Cyprus, and unfortunately, the activity of measuring the pulse of the field has been left to the mercy of certain privileged public opinion companies!

Things are being said that one cannot fathom: Under the guise of public opinion research, these men also have a say and opinion about the city's deputy, politician, and mayor! As you can see, roles and duties have become completely intertwined, and this can reduce the political institution and the political actor to a kind of ‘ordinary person’ status! A more or less similar situation occurred in Cyprus, and the understanding and practices I have summarized were decisive in the election results. Some public opinion companies working with the government were saying Tatar would get 62% and Erhürman 32%, but the exact opposite happened!

The problem is that the research conducted for the solution process by these companies and their owners, who do countless jobs for the AK Party and probably other parties as well, was believed from the start, and the political institution is still acting according to those research results. If it is not seen that bringing these people together with the public, even at festivals, especially in Diyarbakır, and putting into circulation a number of ideas far from reality serves no purpose other than tiring the public and party organizations, it would not be a surprise to experience the same disappointment as in the Cyprus elections in the first general election!

The fact that the reports prepared by these companies regarding Kurdish and Turkish public opinion trends, with the support of the active political institution, act like political actors and engage in activities extending from Erbil to Diyarbakır and Istanbul, serves no purpose other than strengthening false perceptions; recent events in the TBMM and specifically in Diyarbakır should have shown this sufficiently. Especially in Syria, it is impossible to forget the effort they spent, hand in hand with the Neo-Unionists, in the vein of ‘let the Kurd not see his mother,’ to convince the government to launch a military operation!”
