AKP figures react to Şimşek's minimum wage statement: 'We are mocking them'
While Treasury and Finance Minister Mehmet Şimşek's statement that 'the minimum wage in Turkey is not low' continues to draw reactions and criticism, this time the criticism against Şimşek has come from within the AKP camp.
With the announcement of June inflation figures, the salary increase rates for SSK, Bağ-Kur, and civil servant retirees were determined. However, the hopes of millions of workers expecting an increase in the minimum wage were dashed. Former AK Party deputy Şamil Tayyar drew attention with his words, "This is not the AK Party. This curse will come out slowly."
Minister Mehmet Şimşek's words, "The minimum wage in Turkey is not low," also remain on the agenda. Yesterday, AKP member Metin Külünk's criticism of his own party made an impact. AKP's Şamil Tayyar created a stir with his words: "Explaining why a larger increase cannot be made is one thing, saying 'it is enough for you, it is not low' is another. It is very clear, this minimum wage is not enough, and these retirement pensions are not enough."
Şimşek had said in a television program he attended, "We have the highest minimum wage among developing countries. The minimum wage in Turkey is not low."
AKP'S KÜLÜNK AGREED WITH THE RETIREE
AKP's Metin Külünk also agreed with the outcry of a retired citizen during a neighborhood market visit, saying, "If we cannot find a remedy for the troubles of the people who have carried us on their shoulders for 20 years, these citizens are right to the end."
ŞAMİL TAYYAR: A LITTLE COURTESY
Another AKP figure who made self-criticism regarding his party was former Gaziantep deputy Şamil Tayyar. Tayyar gave the message, "The fire burns where it falls. Even if the most ideal program is implemented and there is prosperity in the end, one must try to understand the state of mind of the large masses overwhelmed by the cost of living in this process, and show empathy. A little courtesy."
In a post he made on social media, Şamil Tayyar noted the following regarding the minimum wage and the pension increase:
"Previously, some of our friends were saying things like 'eat less meat, buy fewer tomatoes.' Now, as if to say 'why isn't it enough for you,' we are mocking retirees and minimum wage earners. The fire burns where it falls. Even if the most ideal program is implemented and there is prosperity in the end, one must try to understand the state of mind of the large masses overwhelmed by the cost of living in this process, and show empathy. A little courtesy.
"'PRETENDING TO CARE' BY SAYING 'IT IS ENOUGH FOR YOU' DID NOT WORK"
Explaining why a larger increase cannot be made is one thing, saying 'it is enough for you, it is not low' is another. It is very clear, this minimum wage is not enough, and these retirement pensions are not enough. While giving separate salaries for every job of those around us, not saying 'one is enough, why is a second one needed,' and then 'pretending to care' by saying 'it is enough for you' over a 17 thousand lira minimum wage and a 10 thousand lira pension, did not work.
"THIS IS NOT THE AK PARTY"
This is not the AK Party. The AK Party is the party of everyone, but especially of the poor, the oppressed, and the victims. No one has the right to damage this. Otherwise... This curse will come out slowly."
