AKP Group Chairman Güler: There is no more returning animals to their original locations

Speaking on the program 'Farklı Açılar' (Different Perspectives) with Kübra Par regarding the debates on stray dogs, Güler said, "Euthanasia will be applied to those that are sick and aggressive. There is no more returning animals to their original locations; if we cannot find them homes, they will live in shelters. They cannot find food on the streets, and they freeze in the winter. The street is not a natural habitat. If they are healthy, they will be cared for in shelters for the rest of their lives." he stated.

AKP's Güler made important statements regarding the 'Draft Law on Amendments to the Animal Protection Law' concerning stray animals.

“EUTHANASIA IS A UNIVERSAL CONCEPT”

Regarding the euthanasia debate, Güler said, "Our people use it as a general dictionary term. Euthanasia is a concept used both in international law and in reports published by the World Health Organization. Euthanasia will be applied to those that are sick and aggressive.

There is no more returning animals to their original locations; if we cannot find them homes, they will live in shelters.

They cannot find food on the streets, and they freeze in the winter. The street is not a natural habitat. If they are healthy, they will be cared for in shelters for the rest of their lives." he said.

In response to Par's question, "We have a stray dog problem on the streets. We must absolutely solve this together. In this sense, I have no prejudice regarding the draft law.

I am just wondering about one thing. If municipalities find opening and operating shelters too burdensome and say, 'Well, this one was aggressive, this one was sick,' how can the opposite be proven?" Güler replied, "You can file a criminal complaint with the prosecutor's office for that.

The prosecutor's office will open an investigation into it. Whoever carries out an act or activity contrary to the law there will be prosecuted for misconduct in office, causing public loss, or for killing animals, which is a prohibited act under Law No. 5199."
