AKP mayor who switched from TOGG to Audi responds to backlash: 'It keeps breaking down'
Çorum Mayor Halil İbrahim Aşgın has stopped using the TOGG vehicle he used during the election period and opted for an Audi as his official car. This change was made due to frequent malfunctions experienced with the vehicle.
Çorum Mayor Halil İbrahim Aşgın has stopped using the TOGG-brand vehicle he used during the March 31, 2024, local elections, citing frequent breakdowns, and switched to an Audi. This decision drew criticism from CHP council members. When Council Member Tuncay Yılmaz asked about the fate of the municipality's former official Audi vehicle, Deputy Mayor Lemzi Çöplü confirmed that the 2014 model Audi with 300,000 kilometers had been sold through BELTAŞ A.Ş.
However, the real issue fueling the debate was the purchase of a 2025 model second-hand Audi A6 with only 5,000 kilometers to replace the sold vehicle. Mayor Aşgın defended the necessity of this change, stating that the TOGG vehicle had broken down in Kırıkkale and had to be towed, and that they had also experienced problems on the road to Ankara. Aşgın stated that this situation was being turned into an unnecessary polemic.
