AKP's Mehmet Metiner on the resolution process: 'If it doesn't work this time, the outcome will not be good at all'

Former AKP deputy Mehmet Metiner, who made a statement regarding the resolution process, said, "Mr. Bahçeli's move has allowed us to be hopeful again. I hope what our President says on this matter will crown our hope. Because if it doesn't work this time, the outcome will not be good at all. Contributing to this process is certainly our duty."

AKP's Mehmet Metiner on the resolution process: 'If it doesn't work this time, the outcome will not be good at all'

The handshake between MHP Chairman Devlet Bahçeli and DEM Party deputies at the opening of the Turkish Grand National Assembly, followed by his call for terrorist leader Abdullah Öcalan to "come and speak in Parliament," has strengthened claims of a new resolution process.

Although the AKP wing says, "A resolution process is not on our table," it emerged that after Bahçeli's call, DEM Party's Ömer Öcalan met with Abdullah Öcalan in İmralı.

As discussions on the resolution process continue, former AKP deputy Mehmet Metiner made a statement on his social media account.

Stating that the previous resolution process was sabotaged by FETÖ, Metiner said, "The process was handed over to the security bureaucracy where the FETÖ mindset was embodied. The mistake of negotiating the demands and future of the Kurds with the PKK was made."

"IF IT DOESN'T WORK THIS TIME, THE OUTCOME WILL NOT BE GOOD AT ALL"

Stating that he is 'hopeful' due to MHP leader Bahçeli's call, Metiner said, "I hope what our President says on this matter will crown our hope. Because if it doesn't work this time, the outcome will not be good at all. Contributing to this process is certainly our duty. I call on everyone to contribute within the framework I have envisioned. I invite everyone to common sense and sensitivity."

The full text of Metiner's post is as follows:

"GREETINGS TO THE NEW DAY

The door of hope has been opened.

Greetings to the new day!

There is no need for despair, nor for excessive hope.

It is a difficult process.

A long journey.

Turbulence and fractures are inevitable.

There is hope.

Light is visible at the end of the tunnel.

But one must avoid empty dreams and excessive optimism that will consume hope.

It is essential to have a deep common sense and a will of steel to neutralize provocations.

The previous process was a process in which the US mindset was active.

The FETÖ mindset, an apparatus of the US, sabotaged the process.

The process was handed over to the security bureaucracy where the FETÖ mindset was embodied.

The mistake of negotiating the demands and future of the Kurds with the PKK was made.

I hope these two mistakes of the past are not made this time.

First, one should not act with the US mindset. Only and solely the state mindset of Turkey should be taken as a basis.

Second, political wisdom should be prioritized for the solution of the problem. One should not act with the desk-bound mindset of the security bureaucracy.

I hope a security-oriented approach focused solely on ending terrorism is not taken as a basis.

Simultaneously, steps in the nature of democratic reforms that prioritize winning over not only the Kurds of Turkey but also the Kurds of the region should be taken.

Democratic reforms to be made regarding the democratic and cultural rights of the Kurds will ensure the success of a gain-oriented policy.

Very good work needs to be done on both issues.

If a deep-rooted and comprehensive gain-oriented state mindset aimed at saving the future, not the day, is not well established, all hopes will be exhausted this time.

The imperialist centers waiting in ambush will have their day.

I am hopeful.

But I do have concerns.

If the US mindset is active, I think a thousand times.

The US mindset brings more division and bloodshed in the final analysis.

There is a need for words and practices that will multiply hope.

Mr. Bahçeli’s move has allowed us to be hopeful again.

I hope what our President says on this matter will crown our hope.

Because if it doesn't work this time, the outcome will not be good at all.

Contributing to this process is certainly our duty.

I call on everyone to contribute within the framework I have envisioned.

I invite everyone to common sense and sensitivity.

Without letting go of any precautions.

We are on the threshold of a new era.

Greetings to the new day!"
