Remarkable statement from AKP's Şamil Tayyar before the Erdoğan-Trump meeting! He defended the 'Maduro' silence this way

Venezuelan President Maduro and his wife were abducted and taken to New York in an operation conducted by the US on Saturday. The US attack on Venezuela and the abduction of Maduro have received extensive coverage in Turkey. 

CHP leader Özgür Özel reacted to AKP Chairman and President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan with the words, "You are silent today regarding Maduro, whom you defended yesterday."

President Erdoğan, who has not yet made a statement regarding Maduro, will speak with US President Donald Trump today. It is expected that the events in Venezuela will also be on the agenda during the critical meeting.

Former AKP deputy Şamil Tayyar made a statement on his social media account ahead of the Erdoğan-Trump meeting.

Emphasizing that the operation against Maduro is banditry, Tayyar defended Erdoğan's lack of a statement on the matter by saying, "As citizens, our anger is great; we get mad and say whatever comes to our minds. However, a state is governed by reason, not by anger or momentary emotions, and national interests are taken as the basis."

Noting that the main agenda items of the meeting are Gaza and Syria, Tayyar stated, "It is clear how Israel sabotages the peace process in Gaza and how it resists Turkey's presence in the region. Syria is the same. Israel keeps provoking the YPG. This meeting could end Israel's disruptive role in Gaza and Syria."

Stating that the Venezuela and Maduro issue might also come up, Tayyar commented, "Therefore, in this critical phase, it is very valuable to use the power of diplomacy as much as possible with the hope of solving these sensitive problems, rather than cutting ties with a momentary reaction. Turkey being a country on the other end of the phone, at the table, and on the ground in this global turbulence is not something to be reacted to, but to be appreciated."
