AKP's Tayyar on Özarslan joining the AKP: 'It would not be right,' public will not find it credible

Following the clarification that CHP Keçiören Mayor Özarslan would join the AKP, his correspondence with CHP Chairman Özel had emerged. While the transition in question has sparked debates in both parties, a striking comment came from AKP member Şamil Tayyar.

Here are those statements from Şamil Tayyar:

Now that all the cards are on the table, let us state our opinion.

CHP Chairman Özel does not have a direct insult directed at Keçiören Mayor Özarslan's mother and father.

Özel has targeted Özarslan.

He said, 'Thief, a**, characterless b*stard, f*** off, dog, sycophant, charlatan.'

It seems Özel got angry because he didn't answer his phone and said whatever came to his mind.

For whatever reason, these insults cannot be excused; they cannot be the tone of a party chairman.

Özarslan has also taken these insults to the judiciary; the judiciary will have the final say.

The public will make the political assessment.

I must also remind you of this.

There is a criminal complaint filed by AK Party Ankara Deputy Osman Gökçek with the Ankara Chief Public Prosecutor's Office regarding allegations of bid-rigging and misconduct in office against Özarslan.

The Ministry of Interior has also granted permission and sent a civil inspector.

The serious corruption accusations made by AK Party Ankara Provincial Chairman Hakan Han Özcan and ABB Assembly Group Chairman Nihat Yalçın against Özarslan remain on record.

Furthermore, we know that a comprehensive corruption investigation is being conducted by the Ankara Chief Public Prosecutor's Office against Özarslan.

Under these conditions, Özarslan's transition to the AK Party would not be right.

If this transfer is absolutely desired, it would be more ethical to wait for Özarslan to be cleared by the judiciary.

Even if the decision that comes out of the judiciary after the transfer is correct, the public will not find it credible.

I want to hope that the AK Party, which was born as a 'movement of the virtuous,' will not fall into this error.

We know that political morality is built on principles.
