AKP's Tayyar reacts to 'poverty certificate' controversy: 'There is no explanation for this'

Following reports that the wife of AKP Aksaray MP Hüseyin Altınsoy obtained a "poverty certificate" from a neighborhood headman to be exempt from court fees in a land registry case, statements were made indicating that an investigation had been launched into Altınsoy.

As reactions to the issue continued to emerge, a notable response came from AKP's Şamil Tayyar.

Tayyar stated the following:

"Since there has been no denial so far, let us express our opinion.

If we are going to criticize others, we should not spare ourselves from the same criticism.

For whatever reason, under current conditions, the wife of a member of parliament cannot and should not obtain a 'poverty certificate' to avoid paying court fees.

There is no explanation for this.

At this stage, the certificate must be canceled, the court fee must be paid, and proceedings must be initiated against the headman who issued the document.

The AK Party must confront Aksaray MP Hüseyin Altınsoy."
