AKP's Tayyar unhappy with indictment prepared for Mehmet Akif Ersoy: 'It doesn't sit right with me'

The Istanbul Chief Public Prosecutor's Office has completed the indictment regarding a drug investigation involving Mehmet Akif Ersoy, who was arrested in December while serving as the Editor-in-Chief of Habertürk, along with several other individuals.

The indictment, submitted to the Istanbul High Criminal Court, consists of 96 pages.

In the indictment, the prosecution refers to Mehmet Akif Ersoy as a "criminal organization leader."

Furthermore, it was requested that he be punished for the crimes of "qualified sexual assault," "trading or providing drugs or stimulant substances," and "facilitating the use of drugs."

The following accusations against journalist Ersoy were included in the indictment:

"Frequently using the effects of cocaine on both female victims and organization members"

"Organizing parties where he frequently provided drugs to organization members" whom he knew from his circle of friends and business associates

"Using organization members and victims to satisfy his sexual desires" at these parties

Gaining benefits by using his position to ensure that some of the suspects who were organization members appeared on television programs

AKP'S TAYYAR REACTS

AKP member Şamil Tayyar, who shared a post regarding the indictment prepared against Ersoy, listed the points he criticized and used the following expressions:

TV executive Mehmet Akif Ersoy is accused of establishing a 7-member criminal organization.

According to the indictment; Ersoy is the organization leader and there are 7 members.

I tried to read the indictment carefully.

I would like to draw attention to some points that I find lacking.

Although Ela Rümeysa Cebeci's statements formed the beginning of the investigation, her file has been separated.

Sadettin Saran was also in the same file, and his name was mentioned in Cebeci's statements.

His file has also been separated.

Yet, these were intertwined files.

The 'organization' and 'leader' accusations regarding Ersoy are also very heavy. Perhaps a chain crime could be mentioned.

It is also very strange that a prison sentence of up to 65 years is being sought for Mehmet Akif Ersoy, while Ela Rümeysa Cebeci has been released and her file separated.

It is surprising that even the statement of lawyer Serkan Toper was not taken, despite his name being frequently mentioned in the statements of defendant Tolga Aykut, Secret Witness Atak, and witnesses Pınar Erbaş, Serap Şaylan, and Tuğba Özkan.

I cannot call anyone guilty or innocent; the judiciary will make the final decision.

But this indictment does not sit right with me.
