AKP Provincial Chair asks about İSKİ's debts: Response comes from CHP's Özgür Çelik
Responding to the questions of AKP Istanbul Provincial Chair Kabaktepe, Özgür Çelik stated, "We will continue to speak the truth. Rest assured, Mr. Osman. Istanbulites have Ekrem as their Mayor."
AKP Istanbul Provincial Chair Osman Nuri Kabaktepe had made a post on his social media account directed at CHP's Istanbul candidate and current mayor, Ekrem İmamoğlu.
Kabaktepe's post is as follows:
“I am asking on behalf of Istanbulites to the CHP IMM Mayor: Is it true that you have increased İSKİ's total debt fourfold? If it is true, where is the success in this?”
Republican People's Party (CHP) Istanbul Provincial Chair Özgür Çelik responded to these questions.
Quoting Kabaktepe's post, Çelik replied to the questions as follows:
“Mr. Osman has asked about İSKİ's debts.
In 2019, when we took over the management of the IMM, İSKİ had a total debt of 264.4 million dollars. As of the end of 2023, we reduced this debt by 9.5% to 239.3 million dollars. Moreover, this success was achieved despite a five-year dollar inflation rate of 22.13%.
If we had not intervened and started managing İSKİ correctly, the 264.4 million dollar debt from 2019 would have risen to 322.9 million dollars today.
We do not know if you want to hide behind the loss of value in the Turkish Lira due to the national economy you have brought to the brink of bankruptcy. We will continue to speak the truth. Rest assured, Mr. Osman. Istanbulites have Ekrem as their Mayor.”
