AKP-run Yeşilyurt Municipality, previously in the spotlight for the 'grey passport scandal': 7 arrests in corruption investigation
Seven suspects have been arrested as part of an investigation into the AKP-run municipality, which previously made headlines for human smuggling via grey passports.
AKP Yeşilyurt Mayor Mehmet Çınar's administration at the Yeşilyurt Municipality in Malatya is facing an investigation into irregularities regarding "the sale of municipal land through the preparation of forged documents," with 7 suspects arrested.
The 7 suspects, including 1 municipal employee, were taken into custody by the Provincial Police Department's Anti-Smuggling and Organized Crime Branch as part of an investigation conducted by the Malatya Chief Public Prosecutor's Office, and their processing at the police station has been completed.
The suspects were referred to the courthouse and subsequently arrested by the duty magistrate.
The Yeşilyurt Municipality had previously announced that after suspicious transactions were detected in the Real Estate and Expropriation Directorate, 4 personnel were suspended and a criminal complaint was filed with the Chief Public Prosecutor's Office.
The Provincial Police Department's Anti-Smuggling and Organized Crime Branch teams had detained 7 suspects, including one municipal employee, in connection with the irregularities regarding "the sale of municipal land through the preparation of forged documents" at the Yeşilyurt Municipality.
