AKP's Mehmet Metiner reacts to 'Türkiyeli' debates with 'old Turkey mindset' criticism: 'Elements in the mountains must return to the country'
26th Term AKP MP Mehmet Metiner evaluated the recent debates regarding ethnic origin and the term 'Türkiyeli'.
Stating that the emerging debates are merely an operation to undermine the 'Terror-Free Turkey' process, Metiner said, "Bringing up such old Turkey debates with an old Turkey mindset means sabotaging the process."
Evaluating the agenda, 26th Term AKP MP Mehmet Metiner made notable remarks regarding the efforts carried out for counter-terrorism and social peace. Speaking about the 'Türkiyeli' debate that has been brought up in recent days, Metiner said, "This is a trap." Metiner warned that ideological debates belonging to the past during the disarmament process would sabotage the process.
"A LEGAL FRAMEWORK MUST BE PREPARED"
In his statements on Ekol TV, Metiner stated that the most important goal of the process is for the PKK to completely lay down its arms and for the organization to dissolve itself. Defining the duties of the commission to be established, Metiner said, "A legal framework must be prepared that will ensure all armed elements in the mountains gradually lay down their arms and return to the country."
"IDEOLOGICAL DEBATES HARM THIS PROCESS"
Emphasizing that the peace process should not be limited to Turkey alone, Metiner stated that Turkish-Kurdish brotherhood should also be strengthened in Syria and the Arab geography. Metiner used the expressions, "This is a historic opportunity to bury this bloody problem in history, to reconcile, to seek forgiveness, and to bring Turkey onto the stage of history in a powerful way."
Finally, expressing that the commission to be established should focus solely on peace during this critical process, Metiner said, "Ideological debates harm this process. We must not miss this historic opportunity."
