AKP's Tayyar suggests 'the ballot box brings relief': Hold local elections in the first half of 2027

AKP member Şamil Tayyar has put forward a notable proposal regarding the political debates surrounding municipalities. Noting that a large number of mayoralties are being managed by acting officials due to reasons such as death, the appointment of trustees, imprisonment, transfers, and resignations, Tayyar proposed holding local elections in the first half of 2027 through a constitutional amendment. Tayyar stated, "In democratic regimes, when political stress increases, the ballot box brings relief."

AKP's Tayyar suggests 'the ballot box brings relief': Hold local elections in the first half of 2027

In a post on his social media account, AKP member Tayyar offered a notable solution regarding municipalities, which have become one of the most heated topics of political debate in recent times.

Drawing attention to the management changes in municipalities and the acting processes that have emerged for various reasons, Tayyar pointed to the ballot box as the solution to the debates.

"A large number of municipalities are being managed by acting officials"

Stating that municipalities are one of the most heated topics of political debate, Tayyar expressed that a large number of mayoralties are being managed by acting officials for various reasons.

In his post, Tayyar assessed, "A large number of mayoralties are being managed by acting officials due to reasons such as death, the appointment of trustees, imprisonment, transfers, and resignations."

Stating that he wanted to offer a solution rather than being a part of the current debates, the AKP member expressed his view that local elections should be moved forward.

"Hold local elections in the first half of 2027"

Şamil Tayyar proposed that local elections be held in the first half of 2027, in April or May, through a constitutional amendment.

Arguing that this proposal would mean leaving the future of the current extraordinary process directly to the arbitration of the nation, Tayyar used the following expressions:

"Through a constitutional amendment, let local elections be held in the first half of 2027, for example in April/May, and let the nation's arbitration determine the fate of this extraordinary process."

"The solution that will end the debate and the fighting"

Tayyar argued that moving the elections forward could end the municipal debates on the political agenda. Describing his proposal as the "most radical" but also the "most effective" solution, Tayyar expressed the view that such a step could reduce the ongoing political tension.

At the end of his post, AKP member Tayyar emphasized the importance of the ballot box in resolving the political tension that increases in democratic systems.

Tayyar stated, "I believe it would be the most radical and equally effective solution that would end both the debate and the fighting. In democratic regimes, when political stress increases, the ballot box brings relief."
