AKP's Şamil Tayyar warns his party over 'İmamoğlu protest': 'It makes us look like we are at odds with society'

Tayyar stated, "The confrontational politics that kept us standing against the powerful yesterday has turned into a perception that makes us, as the powerful of today, look like we are at odds with society."

Sharing on his X account, Tayyar said, "The confrontational politics that kept us standing against the powerful yesterday has turned into a perception that makes us, as the powerful of today, look like we are at odds with society. As in Sheikh Edebali's advice to Osman Bey, it is now time for us to be gentle."

Tayyar noted the following:

"The AK Party had to struggle for power for 14 years, from 2002 when it became the government until 2016, despite its electoral victories.

It dealt with military tutelage, the PKK, FETÖ, Gezi protesters, gangs, and lobbyists; it was subjected to a closure case, a memorandum, and a coup attempt.

God willed it, and I stood by my party and my leader against all political assassination attempts aimed at their political existence; I resisted, as much as I could.

Even though those who disappeared during difficult times and took the front lines in sycophancy once the danger passed were treated as favorites, I have no regrets about my struggle.

It is worth underlining; all these fights were waged against external and internal powers that did not recognize the national will and did not want to let its representatives use the power of government.

After 2017, especially with the new system, the AK Party cleared all tutelary elements from the state and became the power of the new process.

The confrontational politics that kept us standing against the powerful yesterday has turned into a perception that makes us, as the powerful of today, look like we are at odds with society.

As in Sheikh Edebali's advice to Osman Bey, it is now time for us to be gentle."
