AKP Spokesperson Çelik hits back at Özgür Özel's 'He couldn't manage the CHP' claim: 'He shouldn't try to whitewash his failures'
AKP Spokesperson Ömer Çelik held a press conference as part of the AKP's 33rd Consultation and Evaluation Meeting held in the Sapanca district of Sakarya.
Regarding the statements made by the elected CHP chairman Özgür Özel, Çelik said, "He was unable to manage the CHP even before this recent legal situation emerged. Now, he should not try to whitewash his own management inadequacies through us. The CHP should resolve its own issues internally."
Beginning his remarks by wishing mercy upon the late Kadir İnanır, Çelik stated that the main theme of the camp was 'A Quarter-Century Epic,' adding, "The characteristic of our camps is that we both evaluate the past six months and determine the policies for the next six months. A more important part is this; consultation camps are also a ground for renewing our commitment, our loyalty, and our dedication to the path we walk.
We always value the camp and the political results that emerge from it. Even though we use different mechanisms each time, notes are taken in all sessions, our friends' questions, criticisms, and the answers given are evaluated, and at the end of the camp, these are extracted one by one within 1-2 months after the camp, and which political results should be drawn are evaluated in our Central Executive Board (MYK) and Central Decision and Administrative Board (MKYK) in the presence of our President. When you look at it from this perspective, it is necessary to seriously underline that our party, which has been in power for such a long time and with an extremely intense agenda, never gives up on these brainstorming sessions," he said.
"This ground is evaluated strongly every time"
Touching upon the sessions held at the camp, Çelik said, "A session was held with our deputy chairmen in the morning. The questions of our deputies and other participants were answered. Now it is being held with our ministers. This ground is evaluated strongly every time as an opportunity to evaluate the quarter-century epic in all its aspects. The issues expressed in the speech of our Chairman and President are all being addressed in the internal sessions, from domestic policy to foreign policy. There will be a consultation meeting with our deputies that our Chairman will attend. Likewise, there will be consultation meetings to be held with our entire delegation at the discretion of our Chairman. Tomorrow, we will have completed our camp with their closing speech," he stated.
Emphasizing that there are important issues in foreign policy, Çelik said, "After the unjust attack carried out by the US and Israel against Iran, both regional peace and world peace were under serious risk. At the point reached, we see that this peace is under risk with the attacks carried out. We have a camp agenda that includes evaluating issues related to the region, from energy issues to agriculture, from food security to artificial intelligence and all other areas," he said.
"We invite everyone to contribute to the process"
Speaking about the 'Terror-Free Turkey' process, Çelik said the following:
"For the terrorist organization to lay down its arms, the legal ground to realize this needs to be formed. We believe that this issue should come to Parliament as soon as possible and should be evaluated and legislated quickly in Parliament. We continue to take these steps to reach the goal of a 'Terror-Free Turkey' and a Terror-Free Region with the support of all political parties in the most inclusive way. Many steps have been taken so far; the stage reached is a new stage. With the enactment of the law, the ground that will ensure the terrorist organization lays down its arms will emerge. If the terrorist organization lays down its arms, then Turkey will have eliminated the terrorist organization it has been fighting for many years. We see that terrorist organizations are used as proxy forces in a wide area from Syria to Iraq. It is seen how valuable it is to carry out our goal of a 'Terror-Free Turkey' and a Terror-Free Region in a connected way. In the new stage we have reached, we invite everyone to contribute to this process with a positive language and approach."
