AKP statement on Gaziosmanpaşa and Beykoz election results: 'Turkey is a state of law'
The AKP announced that the objection filed regarding the election results in Gaziosmanpaşa has been accepted by the 1st and 3rd election boards, while the process in Beykoz is ongoing.
AKP representatives applied to the district election board, requesting a recount of all ballot boxes in Gaziosmanpaşa and Beykoz.
AKP Provincial Vice President and Head of Election Affairs Muammer Birdal stated that the March 31 Local Administration General Elections have taken place and that they respect the will of the nation.
Stating that whatever the nation says is held in high regard, Birdal said, "We want the will of the nation to emerge from the ballot box exactly as it was cast; in this sense, we have filed objections in some districts in Istanbul.
Among these, we requested a recount of all votes in the Gaziosmanpaşa district, and the 1st and 3rd election boards decided to recount all ballot boxes, while the 2nd election board rejected it. We are following the legal process by appealing the rejection decision of the 2nd board to the provincial election authorities as required by the legal process."
Birdal noted the following:
"We have also submitted our objection petition requesting a recount of all votes in the Beykoz district to the election board. The Beykoz election board's evaluation of the legal process is ongoing.
As we all know, Turkey is a state of law. We will legally follow up on our votes. Our nation is our crown jewel."
According to unofficial results, CHP's Hakan Bahçetepe led AK Party's Hasan Tahsin Usta by a margin of 0.33 percent in Gaziosmanpaşa. Bahçetepe, who received 107,636 votes, surpassed Usta, who received 106,757 votes, by a margin of 879 votes.
