AKP's Tayyar pleads with Erdoğan following dog massacres: 'For the sake of God'

Animal rights advocates claim that stray dogs have been mass-killed in Niğde and Ankara's Altındağ district, and are attempting to expose the brutality by showing images of pits dug to bury the dogs.

While the municipalities subject to these allegations deny the claims that dogs were mass-killed, an AKP figure could not remain indifferent to these mass killings and issued a call to AKP Chairman and President Erdoğan.

Emphasizing that the enacted law does not foresee such cruelty, Tayyar used the phrase, 'it has mobilized the murderous-minded scoundrels.'

ŞAMİL TAYYAR ADDRESSED ERDOĞAN AS FOLLOWS:

"My dear President.

A dog hunt has begun in every corner of the country.

In many places, especially Niğde, Bartın, Altındağ, Ahlat, and Silivri, dogs are being cruelly slaughtered without any rules being followed.

The images of poisoned dogs in their death throes are heartbreaking.

It is impossible not to weep at the sight of a dog that was used as target practice and whose body was riddled with 20 bullets.

Words fail when faced with dogs whose heads were severed and whose parts were thrown into a trash dump in bags.

And many more.

I did not include the images because my heart could not bear it.

Even though the law does not foresee such cruelty, it has mobilized the murderous-minded scoundrels.

For the sake of God, stop this cruelty.

A word from you is enough"

WHAT HAPPENED IN ALTINDAĞ?

In Ankara's Altındağ district, numerous carcasses belonging to animals of different breeds were found near a municipal shelter. While the Ankara Metropolitan Municipality announced that it would follow the matter, the Ankara Chief Public Prosecutor's Office launched an investigation.

Following the discovery of the mass grave, a team including 2 veterinarians from the District Directorate of Agriculture arrived at the scene and removed the lifeless bodies of dogs, cats, and 2 sheep from the mass grave. 

Ankara Bar Association Animal Rights Center Vice President Lawyer Burcu Yağcı said, “The municipality says in its statement that it is a natural death or death resulting from a traffic accident. However, looking at the way the animals were killed, one definitely cannot say ‘natural death’.” In a statement made by the Altındağ Municipality, it was claimed that the place in the images was an animal cemetery and it was stated, “The news of the massacre is completely baseless. This cemetery is an area where stray animals that die a natural death within the borders of Altındağ and/or die due to traffic accidents or infections are buried during the day. Altındağ Municipality, as in other municipalities, collects an average of 20-25 animals that have lost their lives per week upon reports from citizens and buries them in this area in accordance with health/hygiene rules.”

ERDOĞAN HAD SPOKEN AS FOLLOWS REGARDING THE ENACTMENT OF THE LAW

Erdoğan, whom Şamil Tayyar called upon to stop the cruelty, had explained how work should be done for the stray animal law to pass through parliament:

AKP Chairman and President Erdoğan said, "I hope we will present this issue to the appreciation of the General Assembly before the Parliament goes on recess, and I believe that by enacting the proposal as the People's Alliance, without giving premium to disturbances there, we will make our streets safe."

Erdoğan had said, "I expect a determined stance from our entire group, from every friend of mine who is under this supreme roof as a representative of the nation. There is no compromise, and with God's permission, we will finish this job."
