AKP to hold post-holiday retreat: Constitution and economy on the agenda

Following the Eid al-Adha holiday, the Justice and Development Party (AKP) will organize two separate retreats to review both its organizational structure and political course. In the retreats planned for June and July, topics including the economy, constitutional debates, local government assessments, and intra-party strategies will be discussed.

The AKP's first retreat will be held with provincial chairs from June 22–24, and the second with members of parliament from July 11–13. Both retreats will take place at the party's traditional retreat facilities in the Kızılcahamam district of Ankara.

INTENSE AGENDA

President and AKP Chairman Recep Tayyip Erdoğan is also expected to attend the retreats. During the programs, which will be attended by cabinet members, Central Executive Committee (MYK) members, provincial chairs, and MPs, the latest work of the ministries will be presented, and updates regarding the organizational structure will be shared.

According to party officials, the prominent topics at the retreats are as follows:

  • Preparations for a new constitution

  • Economic rebalancing process and the fight against inflation

  • Analysis of the March 31 election results

  • Evaluation of local government performance

  • Steps for intra-party discipline and restructuring

  • Turkey's position in foreign policy

EMPHASIS ON A NEW CONSTITUTION

Party sources state that work on a new constitution will return to the agenda in the second half of this year, and that analyses regarding the “political climate and public opinion” will be presented during the retreat meetings. Erdoğan is also expected to make a comprehensive assessment on this matter.
