AKP's Zengin issues 'sensitivity' warning to DEM Party: 'It must be taken into account'
AKP Group Deputy Chair Özlem Zengin met with journalists at an event organized by the Turkish Press Federation.
Zengin criticized the slogans chanted in the DEM Party group, stating, "Slogans that disturbed all of Turkey were chanted. Everyone, especially the DEM Party, needs to take public sensitivity into account. This is not an easy process," she said.
Özlem Zengin made statements regarding the current agenda. AKP's Özlem Zengin said that the work of the Commission for a Terror-Free Turkey could continue until the end of the year. Regarding legal regulations, she stated that the commission's report should be awaited. Özlem Zengin also called for sensitivity regarding the slogans chanted in the DEM Party group.
"A ROADMAP WILL BE DETERMINED"
Speaking about expectations for legal regulations, Özlem Zengin said, "It is likely that a roadmap will be determined with some regulations that should be in the penal code, separately for those who have touched weapons and those who have not. I think it won't be long; let the commission complete its report. Let us see what it recommends to the Grand National Assembly of Turkey (TBMM), and after that, we will conduct a study with both deputies and criminal law experts," she said.
The goal of a Terror-Free Turkey was on the agenda. Özlem Zengin was also asked whether there would be a general amnesty regulation. "In my personal opinion, I do not think there will be a general amnesty regulation," she said.
Bringing the conversation to the AKP's new constitution efforts, Zengin stated, "Rather than going to the parties with a concrete constitutional proposal, we want to have a skeleton structure and negotiate based on that main framework," she said.
