AKP's 'censorship-like' İliç request to X for 45 posts
X's Global Government Affairs department has shared decisions made by judges on the social media platform.
According to the shared documents, a 'content removal' order was issued by the Ankara 8th Criminal Court of Peace for 45 pieces of content following the mining disaster in the İliç district of Erzincan. Among these 45 posts are three posts by Zafer Party Chairman Ümit Özdağ.
X stated that the company had appealed the removal orders to a higher court, and that the court had ruled the posts in question were protected under freedom of expression and press freedom, thereby invalidating the government's requests.
In a statement from the company, it was said, "X is fighting legal battles around the world to protect our users from government censorship. This week, an important decision was made that confirms the importance of these struggles."

"HAD THREATENED X WITH A FINE"
Stating that the Turkish government had requested the removal of 45 posts related to the İliç mining disaster, including three belonging to Zafer Party Chairman Ümit Özdağ, the company recalled, "The government had threatened to impose a heavy fine on X if the decisions to remove the content were not complied with."
X stated that the company had appealed the removal orders to a higher court, and that the court had ruled the posts in question were protected under freedom of expression and press freedom, thereby invalidating the government's requests.
The statement concluded with the words, "This result once again confirms X's commitment to protecting its users' rights to freedom of expression worldwide. We will continue to use all available legal avenues to defend our users' expressions."
