AKP's Hüseyin Çelik reacts to investigation into Nevşin Mengü

Journalist Nevşin Mengü conducted an interview on her YouTube channel with Salih Muslim, the leader of the terrorist organization YPG/PYD, who is wanted under a red notice following the fall of the Bashar al-Assad regime in Syria.

Mengü, who was detained on the morning of December 14, was the subject of an ex officio investigation launched by the Istanbul Chief Public Prosecutor's Office on allegations of containing "statements praising a terrorist organization and its actions."

Following her statement at the prosecutor's office, Nevşin Mengü was referred to the duty magistrate judge and was released under judicial control with a travel ban.

Former Minister of National Education Hüseyin Çelik, who has recently come to the fore with his criticisms of the AKP government, described the investigation launched against Nevşin Mengü as a 'legal scandal.'

Çelik, one of the founders of the AKP, stated, "This is exactly the legal understanding of February 28."

"WE CALL THIS JOURNALISTIC SUCCESS"

In a post on his X account, Çelik said, "Let us not forget that the PYD is only seen as a terrorist organization by Turkey. HTS, on the other hand, is seen as a terrorist organization by the entire world, including Turkey. In this context, will an investigation also be launched regarding journalists who interview Jolani, on whose head the US has placed a 10 million dollar reward?"

Stating, "If it were to be launched, that would be something beyond reason," Çelik continued as follows:

"When a journalist interviews a terrorist, they do not become a terrorist; when they interview a mafia boss, they do not become a mafia boss; and when they interview a drug baron, they do not become a baron. On the contrary, we call this journalistic success. Some may be pleased with these events, but our image of a 'State of Law' and 'Free Press' is being destroyed. Have some sense..."
