AKP's Tayyar reacts to Bahçeli's 'status for Öcalan' remarks: You keep dragging your feet

Bahçeli stated that a new move is needed regarding the new resolution process, which the government describes as a "Terror-Free Turkey" and the DEM Party as "Peace and Democratic Society."

Making evaluations to the Türkgün newspaper, Bahçeli said regarding the status of PKK leader Abdullah Öcalan, "A structure should be built where Öcalan can maintain his influence over the organization instead of his founding leadership of the defunct PKK."

Stating that maintaining Öcalan's imprisonment while granting him a new social status would allow the process of the PKK and its components laying down arms to be carried out more healthily, Bahçeli proposed a "Peace Process and Politicization Coordination" for this new status.

Saying that the coordinator status that could be given to Öcalan would be limited to the organization's liquidation process, Bahçeli said, "This coordination does not cover issues such as being the leader and representative of the Kurds, or the advocacy of ethnic and categorical rights."
