The alarming results of police inspections around schools in Istanbul
The results of approximately 9 months of operations coordinated by the Istanbul Police Department's Child Protection Branch, aimed at identifying individuals who pose a threat to safety near schools, locating wanted persons, and apprehending suspects, have been announced.
According to a statement from the Istanbul Police Department, as a result of operations conducted across the city between September 11, 2023, and May 27, 2024, with the participation of a total of 161 thousand 898 personnel from branch directorates and district police departments, 986 thousand 850 people were stopped and questioned.

Within the scope of the efforts, 77 thousand 550 public venues were inspected, and 6 thousand 959 abandoned buildings were checked. During the operations, 3 thousand 708 wanted persons were apprehended, judicial proceedings were initiated against 749 people, and administrative actions were taken against 4 thousand 541 people.
NARCOTICS, CANNABIS, CARTRIDGES, STOLEN MOTORCYCLES
Searches conducted resulted in the seizure of 568 thousand 690 filled/empty macaroons, 179 kilograms 263 grams of shredded tobacco, 20 thousand 259 packs of contraband cigarettes, 7 thousand 65 unbanded cigars, 6 thousand 417 electronic cigarettes, 3 kilograms 303 grams of narcotics, 42 cannabis plants, 1 thousand 242 packs of hookah tobacco, 1 thousand 70 cartridges, 86 long-barreled weapons and pistols, 54 cutting tools, 4 stolen motorcycles, 3 fake passports, and 3 cigarette filling machines.

Furthermore, out of 65 thousand 91 school buses checked, 15 thousand 588 were issued administrative fines totaling 30 million 839 thousand 585 Turkish Lira for failing to meet legal requirements, and 2 thousand 374 school buses were banned from traffic.
