Responding to a question about whether they would support the government's demand for a new constitution, Babacan said, "We are people who know state experience and state decorum; we have lived and experienced how a country is governed, how a country's honor is raised, and how a country is made successful." He added, "We also know well what a constitution is. We are people who have contributed to reforms in 20 countries. Let them bring the constitutional article, let's see it. Whether we will support it or not, we will decide on that day."

Responding to criticisms regarding DEVA Party deputies being elected by entering the elections on CHP lists, Babacan said, "The CHP management came to us and insisted. They said, 'If there is no joint list, we cannot secure a majority in Parliament.' The names we provided for the joint lists were announced one by one in the CHP's party assembly. Those who did not object that day started to grumble later. We told the DEVA voters, 'If you want to support us, you will go and stamp 'yes' under the CHP.' Our deputies were elected with the votes of DEVA voters. We won with the sweat of our brow."

"ARE WE GOING TO ASK YOU WHO WE SHOULD GREET?"

Regarding the photo taken at the reception held in Parliament yesterday, which he addressed at the New Way Group Meeting, Babacan had stated, "A single photo from the parliamentary reception landed right in the middle of the country's agenda. A group that supposedly supports the CHP started attacking. The insults, the abuse... I want to address that crowd: Are we going to ask you where we should go or who we should greet?"
