Ali Babacan's first statement on resignations from his party: He addressed the umbrella group in Parliament

DEVA Party Chairman Ali Babacan, who is in the process of forming a new group in Parliament together with the Felicity (Saadet) and Future (Gelecek) parties, made evaluations regarding the agenda during a live broadcast he attended on Sözcütv.

Babacan said the following regarding the resignations and the group they are trying to form:

If I were doing politics only for power and government, I would not have left the AKP; principles and values are just as important as power and government. Politics is not done just to be in power, and besides, what is the use of a government that does not operate on rights and justice to this country after pushing millions of people to the hunger threshold!

Those who left the AKP and want to return there must explain the reason for this return. They must say what has changed for them and for the country. Deputies returning to the AKP must provide an explanation.

Regarding the resignation of Mustafa Yeneroğlu, one of the founding members of his party, Ali Babacan stated that he had been aware of the issue since December 2 and that they had carried out the resignation process without any argument or resentment between them.

HE SPOKE ABOUT THE GROUP IN PARLIAMENT

Babacan also said the following about the group they are trying to form with the Saadet and Gelecek parties:

It is extremely important for political parties to come together and form a group, and it is a model also used in the European Parliament... In European democracies, the term group is a system created by parties coming together...

We are thinking about how we can establish a broad work plan in parliamentary activities. We should not force Turkey to choose between the main opposition and the ruling bloc; we need to show a new path... We said that we would like to walk this path with parties and names with whom we share the same dream.

We started our negotiations on this umbrella structure in September. Our goal is broad cooperation with Saadet and Gelecek...

Mr. Davutoğlu, Mr. Arıkan, and I came together and decided to work on implementing a model where the three parties will work together. However, we have not yet finalized it and closed the deal. We will continue our efforts to flesh out this umbrella group formula.

Each party also has its own internal consultation processes. For now, we are looking favorably at this cooperation model.

Political parties maintain their own identities, legal personalities, and party programs. With this umbrella group, parties preserve their unique identities but begin to walk the path together.

We hope this process will develop and we are open to the participation of new parties. The 3 leaders met and made a decision in principle.

We want to present a solid option and group to our citizens.

"WE TALKED AND SAID IF THERE IS ANYONE WHO MIGHT BE TEMPTED BY THE ALLURE OF POWER, LET US KNOW"

Frankly, after we set out, we sat down and talked with our friends; we said if there is anyone who might be tempted by the allure of power in any way, let's not even start with those friends. As 3 Chairmen, we evaluated these. We are setting out on a path; if we have such friends, let us know from the beginning so it is not a surprise later. If they have such intentions, let them say it today so we do not face surprises tomorrow.

"THERE WILL BE NO SHIFT TO THE AKP IN THE DEVA PARTY"

Everyone is sure of their own friends regarding the attitude at yesterday's meeting with the Chairmen. Such a thing would not happen to us anyway. Especially in terms of shifting to the AKP. We would not have such a problem anyway. Because there would be no inconsistencies. Our friends are those who know the country well and know politics and inconsistency.

The human factor exists everywhere; since we know our friends, know why they left the AKP, and conduct these matters through consultation, we are sure of our DEVA Party friends. We also discussed this with the other Chairmen. We spoke openly, saying if there is a risk, let us know today, and if we are all sure, let us walk this path together."
