Ali Mahir Başarır's statement on determining the CHP candidate: A reference to the 2023 elections
CHP Group Deputy Chairman Ali Mahir Başarır evaluated the discussions regarding the candidate the CHP will field in the 2028 Presidential elections.
CHP's Ali Mahir Başarır, in a statement regarding the public discussions about the CHP's presidential candidate, said: "There is no discussion or infighting within us regarding candidacy. There is no such debate among the current potential candidates either.
The names being discussed are always together on important days.
After the June elections, I was very sad and I didn't watch television for a long time.
Then I saw that news stories were starting to be made about presidential candidacy scenarios within the CHP. This seems very absurd to me. We will not make the mistakes made in 2023," he stated.
CHP's Ali Mahir Başarır, who was a guest on the program "Hepsi Bu Hafta Oldu" (It All Happened This Week) hosted by Armağan Çağlayan on Ekol TV, spoke about his party's candidate preference.

Ali Mahir Başarır continued his words by saying, "I am not saying that Kemal Bey's candidacy was a mistake.
But while the candidate should have been determined from a broader perspective and with a wider consensus, Kemal Bey stepped forward and we gave our support.
I do not want to return to those days.
We will go to the election with a candidate who will win and who is accepted by the vast majority of society.”
“NONE OF US ARE SILENT”
CHP Group Deputy Chairman Ali Mahir Başarır responded to criticisms that the CHP is not opposing the government by saying, “None of us are silent against the government, the President, their actions, and their rhetoric.
Have you seen us being silent?
We are making the harshest criticisms. Chairman Özgür Özel has held rallies in 7 regions and has used the harshest sentences.”
