Ali Yerlikaya announced new penalties: Those who do this 5 times in traffic will be sent to psychiatry
Minister of Interior Ali Yerlikaya announced the details of the new regulation regarding traffic penalties that will come to the agenda of the Grand National Assembly of Turkey (TBMM) this week. Stating that fines for many types of violations have been increased, Yerlikaya announced that drivers who exceed the speed limit 5 times within a year will be referred to a psychiatry department.
With the new regulation to be submitted to the Grand National Assembly of Turkey (TBMM) tomorrow, radical changes will be made to traffic penalties.
While fines for many violations will be increased, in some cases, drivers' licenses may be suspended for long periods. Sharing the details of the regulation, Minister of Interior Ali Yerlikaya emphasized that heavy sanctions will be applied to drivers who exceed the speed limit, especially in school and hospital zones.
DRIVERS WHO EXCEED THE SPEED LIMIT BY 76 KM WILL HAVE THEIR LICENSES CONFISCATED
Yerlikaya also announced the new penalty system regarding speed violations. Accordingly, the licenses of drivers who exceed the set speed limit by 76 kilometers will be confiscated for 30 days, those who exceed it by 86 kilometers for 60 days, and those who exceed it by 96 kilometers for 90 days.
The Minister stated that with this regulation, radar penalties will now be evaluated in the “excessive speed” category and could result in license cancellation.
THOSE WHO COMMIT 5 SPEED VIOLATIONS WILL BE SENT TO PSYCHIATRY
According to the new practice, the licenses of drivers who violate a red light 5 times within a calendar year will be canceled and they will be referred for an eye examination.
Similarly, drivers who exceed the speed limit 5 or more times will be sent to a psychiatry department. Yerlikaya stated that this practice aims to identify drivers who pose a danger in traffic and to prevent potential accidents.
HEAVY PENALTIES FOR THOSE USING MOBILE PHONES WHILE DRIVING
High fines are also coming for drivers who talk on or text with their mobile phones while driving.
A fine of 5,000 TL will be issued for the first violation, and 10,000 TL if repeated. The license of a driver who commits the same violation for the third time will be confiscated for 30 days.
PENALTY FOR NOT GIVING WAY TO AN AMBULANCE IS LICENSE CANCELLATION
According to the new regulation, the licenses of drivers who do not give way to an ambulance or fire truck twice within 5 years will be completely canceled. Yerlikaya said, “We will not allow any behavior that disregards the lives of the public to go unpunished.”
