Ali Yerlikaya announces the number of Syrians who have acquired Turkish citizenship

Minister of Interior Ali Yerlikaya answered questions from members of parliament during the 2024 budget negotiations for his ministry at the Grand National Assembly of Turkey (TBMM) General Assembly.

Speaking about asylum seekers, Yerlikaya announced the number of Syrians who have acquired Turkish citizenship.

Yerlikaya stated, "As of December 2023, 238 thousand 55 foreign nationals of Syrian origin under temporary protection have exceptionally acquired Turkish citizenship. Of these, 134 thousand 422 are adults and 100 thousand 633 are children."

THE DIYARBAKIR FAMILIES' PROTEST

Reminding that the Diyarbakır mothers' sit-in protest for their children began on September 3, 2019, in front of the HDP provincial building in Diyarbakır, Yerlikaya said, "These actions have become a source of hope in our other provinces as well. Sit-in protests have also begun in Muş, Van, Hakkari, İzmir, and Şırnak. A total of 475 families are continuing their sit-ins for their children, including 371 in Diyarbakır, 46 in Muş, 34 in Van, 17 in Hakkari, 4 in İzmir, and 3 in Şırnak. As a result of persuasion efforts, 46 children in total—45 from families participating in the protest in Diyarbakır and 1 in Van—have surrendered from within the terrorist organization."

"47 THOUSAND 466 FOREIGNERS TRANSFERRED TO REMOVAL CENTERS"

Stating that they are waging a relentless fight against irregular migration nationwide, Yerlikaya said that at mobile migration points, foreigners whose legal status is in doubt are identified by law enforcement through systematic checks conducted with the help of migration experts and interpreters. Yerlikaya said, "At the 38 mobile migration points established in Istanbul, foreigners identified as irregular migrants are transferred to removal centers for deportation proceedings. In 2023, 143 thousand 47 foreigners were questioned at these mobile migration points. 47 thousand 466 foreigners identified as irregular migrants were transferred to removal centers for deportation."
